How Bifidobacterium breve Help Colic Baby?
Supplementing an infant with Bifidobacterium breve CECT7263 may present an “earlier and more robust effect than the reference prescribed drug” for the management of colic, says a new clinical trial.
The breastmilk-isolated probiotic strain Bifidobacterium brev have an earlier and more robust effect on infant colic than simethicone, since the consumption of Bifidobacterium breve reduced the daily time of crying in infants diagnosed with infantile colic from the first week of the intervention and at a higher percentage.
These results were observed in infants feeding with breastmilk or infant formula and were accompanied by the observation of better infants’ night sleep and an improvement in the parents’s mood.
All of this, together with the fact that the study subjects did not suffer from adverse effects and that the probiotic was well tolerated, supports the role of Bifidobacterium breve as a safe and effective treatment option for infant colic, presenting an earlier and more robust effect than the reference prescribed drug for infantile colic, simethicone.
How Probiotics Help Gassy Babies
Because baby’s digestive system is still maturing, it doesn’t have all the beneficial flora the system needs to digest the food thoroughly.
Probiotics help balance this lack, adding the beneficial bacterial flora to the gut. As the healthy bacteria grows over time, it aids the digestion process and helps the intestines secrete enzymes. Probiotics also help reduce the intestinal inflammation, preventing gas pockets from getting trapped in the intestines.
My baby was born via C-section
Significant differences in infant microbiome have been noted depending on methods of birth. Babies born by C-section have lower bacterial counts and reduced populations of Bifidobacteria at 1 month compared to those born vaginally. However, the simple solution to this is to populate your babies’ microflora as soon as is possible after birth, by giving a daily probiotic bacteria supplement for a minimum of 6 months. With less crying, spit ups and throw ups, it stands to reason that a baby is going to be a much happier camper. All that excess body action can’t possibly make for a pleasant day (it certainly puts a dampener on a parent’s day, that’s for sure). By supporting a baby’s digestive comfort, probiotic Lactobacillus reuteri can support their overall comfort and wellbeing. Which makes for a calmer baby, which makes for a calmer parent. Ah, much better.
